The Dance of “El Costeño” tells the story of highlanders that go to the Pacific Coast during the crop season to earn an extra income. Since the coast is warmer, their skin turns red. This character is called “Cargador” and carries heavy loads on his back. The trademark of these characters is the nicely carved hair, but specially a nice curl. Notice the gracefully black painted eyelashes and eyebrows that highlight the black eyes. A small nose and mouth carving give the piece a special look.
